Miss California 2026: Why Contestants Keep Returning (2026)

The Miss California 2026 pageant is back in Fresno, and it's a testament to the enduring appeal of pageantry. This year's event showcases a diverse group of women, with 38 contestants vying for the title of Miss California and 25 teens competing for the Miss California Teen title. The pageant, affiliated with the Miss America Organization, has evolved from a traditional beauty contest to a scholarship competition, offering more than just a crown and sash. It's a platform for personal growth, skill development, and community engagement.

What makes this pageant particularly intriguing is the presence of repeat contestants. Many of these women have been part of the Miss America Organization for years, competing in local competitions and gradually climbing the ranks. This year's contestants bring a wealth of experience and a unique perspective to the competition.

One such contestant is Love d'Encarnacao Bradley, a UC Irvine student and Miss Culver City 2026. With eight years of experience in the Miss America Organization, she has won five titles across Southern California. Bradley's journey began at just 13 years old, and she credits the pageant with transforming her from an extremely shy individual into a confident professional. Her skills in public speaking and interview presence have been instrumental in landing her current job in the office of Congressman Mark Takano. Bradley emphasizes the value of perseverance and resilience, stating, 'There’s nothing to lose. Even if you don’t walk away with the top crown or a sash, the skills that you pick up alone are what’s going to benefit you the most at the end of the day.'

Another contestant, Ashley Lee, is Miss Placentia 2026 and a former Miss Yorba Linda’s Teen 2023. Lee's journey began at 17 years old, and she has since competed in six local competitions. Her first statewide competition in Visalia was a transformative experience, and she has been dedicated to the program ever since. Lee is graduating from college early and is eager to fulfill the duties of the state titleholder, representing California at the Miss America 2026 competition in Florida. She believes that the pageant provides a unique opportunity to make friends and earn scholarship money, saying, 'I thought that it would be a really good opportunity for me to make friends, and I’ve obviously heard so many good things about the program.'

Kiley Pastori, Miss Yosemite Valley 2026, is a Fresno State nursing student with a background in local competitions. She held the title of Miss Merced County 2020 and took a break from the pageant world after winning her first title. Pastori's return to the competition is driven by her love for competitive activities and the opportunity to build soft skills and lifelong friendships. She challenges the stereotype of pageant queens as 'catty' or unfriendly, emphasizing the positive and supportive environment within the organization. During the talent portion, Pastori will showcase her passion for medical care by performing a CPR lesson with a humorous twist, combining education with entertainment.

The Miss California competition is more than just a beauty pageant; it's a platform for personal growth, skill development, and community engagement. The contestants' stories demonstrate the transformative power of pageantry, offering opportunities for scholarship, leadership, and friendship. As the pageant unfolds in Fresno, the women will not only compete for titles but also for the chance to represent California at the Miss America 2026 competition, leaving a lasting impact on their lives and the pageant community.
